Music career has become really lucrative even for popular music stars in Pakistan but the amount of money they make is nothing as compared to their counterparts in the Western world. Western musical stars earn a phenomenal amount of money as their music is globally sold and has created a cult-status.

The transparency in musical dealings has increased the level of earnings and the income is multiplied through many avenues such as record sales, publishing, streaming and touring. The bulk of the incomes come from music tours and the top earners do regular concerts. Music lovers in the Western world throng musical concerts and greatly appreciate performing artists sometimes pressing familiar artists to present all items of their albums. The combined income of the 50 leading musical entities earned a whopping $961 million in the current year.

The number one position was occupied by U2 with earnings of $54.40 million with “Joshua Tree Tour” celebrated the 30th anniversary of U2’s seminal album, placing the Irish rock band in the top spot for earnings. They brought in $52 million from live shows alone as their tour hit 33 destinations. Metallica scored earnings of $43.2 million and the heavy metal band brought $30.7 million from their ‘WorldWired’ tour.

Ed Sheeran raked in $31.30 million and his number, Shape of You, is the hottest item on the circuit. His current income was derived through $11.5 million in publishing royalties and $19.9 million from touring. Lady Gaga is still very lustrous earning $29.7 million and her packed performances netted $26.5 million. The Weeknd earned $23.3 million with streaming and touring earning the Canadian rapper lots of money.

Red Hot Chili Peppers made an income of $21.6 million and they have a record of staying in the music industry for the last three decades. Paul McCartney still blazes a trail and earned $20.5 million and he is rated as the richest musician in Britain. Very popular musician Jay-Z earned $19.8 million as the hip-hop star and business mogul had a very successful banner throughout the year.

Bruce Springsteen is still popular raking in $18.5 million. Neil Diamond still goes strong having earned $16.5 million after wrapping his 50th anniversary tour in 2017. Unfortunately, a few weeks later he retired owing to Parkinson’s disease.

The Titanic singing star Céline Dion earned $16.2 million and Bon Jovi netted $14.50 million and was entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Pop star Britney Spears made $14.1 million and Faith Hill earned $12.50 million, co-headlined by her husband Tim McGraw. Elton John remained steady with an income of $11.40 million but announced his retirement from touring. He also ranks formidably in streaming and downloads.

Michael Jackson’s talented sister Janet Jackson got in $11.34 million though she has not released an album since her last album Unbreakable released in 2015 but her income came mostly from touring. The sitcom star-turned-pop music icon Ariana Grande earned $11.36 million and she is rated as one of the handful to surpass one billion streams for the year.
