It is a wonderful locale to visit as Shandur Pass is recognised to be the highest Polo Ground on earth. It is vastly celebrated as an extremely attractive venue that is located between Chitral District and Ghizer District of Gilgit-Baltistan in the gorgeous northern areas of Pakistan. Famous as the ‘Roof of the World’ it is perched-up at 3,738 meters above the sea-level and the top of the venue is flat, a plateau and can be crossed between late April and early November. The grade is very gradual and the area is criss-crossed by plentiful small streams during summer.
The Shandur Pass is one of the major mountain passes of Pakistan and is widely known for its majesty and idyllic location. The Polo ground is 168 kilometers from Chitral and is accessible by SUVs. Due to icy conditions and snowfall Shandur Pass remains inaccessible during winter months but opens itself up when the summer approaches.
The highlight of Shandur Pass is the annual Shandur Polo Festival that is organised by federal ministry of Tourism and Chitral district authorities. The tournament is played between teams of Chitral district and other districts of Gilgit-Baltistan. The tournament attracts large number of visitors from all over the country.
